NSG Group’s “UFF®” and “glanova®” Glass Products for Electronics and Automotive, Recognized for SCS Recycled Content Certification for the First Time
NSG Group (Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. and its group companies) is pleased to announce that for the first time, “UFF®” ultra-fine flat glass and “glanova®” chemically strengthened glass, manufactured in the Group’s Maizuru plant (Maizuru, Kyoto) have received Recycled Content Certification from SCS Global Services (SCS), third-party environmental sustainability certification and auditing organization. These glass products are used for a wide range of applications such as Electronics, Touch Panel Glass, cover glass, mobile devices, auto interiors, Office Automation and Factory Automation. With this certification, it is now recognized by an independent organization that more than 35% of materials in “UFF®” and 38% of it in “glanova®” are made from pre-consumer recycled glass such as trimmed glass from the manufacturing processes of float glass. Although this certification is limited to some items of each brand, with the certification of these products as a stepping stone, we aim to develop a brand of environmentally friendly products that meet the needs of the market in the future.
In order to realize a sustainable society, it is essential to promote the reuse and recycling of resources in the manufacturing process to reduce environmental impact. We already have been reusing all glass cullet, which is trimmed glass scraps from the manufacturing processes, by remelting it as raw material for glass. Recently, we have succeeded in enhancing the recycling ratio by collecting waste glass from our customers in addition to collecting glass cullet in-house and recycling them as raw materials for glass.
This certification will improve the reliability of our product data in the environmental field and contribute to reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions associated with glass melting in addition to minimizing waste through recycling.
