The NSG Group contributes to the realization of a sustainable society through our sustainability activities.
In accordance with the NSG Group Sustainability Policy, our group has identified material issues that must be recognized in order to achieve both sustainable growth for the company and the realization of a sustainable society over the medium to long term. In drawing up our new medium-term management plan, we have recently re-examined our material issues.
We have reviewed this to clarify the company's policy that safety is a prerequisite for our business, and have separated "health and safety," which was previously included as part of "human capital," into a separate material issue, and have divided it into two categories: one as a basic element of management and the other as a source of competitiveness.
The three materiality issues of "health and safety", "ethics and compliance," and "safe, high-quality products and services" are the highest priorities for the entire Group, and we will manage them as basic management issues that must be achieved in the course of business operations and will continue to raise awareness and make improvements.
The three materiality issues of "environment," "social shift and innovation" and "human capital," which are the source of competitiveness, correspond to the four "D"s (Business Development, Decarbonization, Diverse Talent, Digital Transformation) of this medium-term plan, and we will strategically address them in the new medium-term plan to improve corporate value.
New targets and KPIs have been set for each of the six materialities. Some of the targets have been carried over from previous targets, while others have been significantly raised or new targets have been set.
Health and Safety: We have significantly raised our target for the Significant Injury Rate (SIR), with new approaches such as the introduction of CCTV cameras and AI, aiming for a step-change in the safety behavioural aspect.
Ethics and Compliance: As a certain number of hotline reports were obtained, new targets were set, such as focusing on the quality of the content of the reports and reducing the number of retaliation cases for reporting to zero.
Decarbonization: The targets for Scope 1 and Scope 2 were raised and new Scope 3 reduction targets were specified. In addition, new environmental targets were set to raise the recycling rate of glass and reduce water withdrawal.
Social Shift and Innovation: A new quantitative target has now been set for improving the sales composition of strategic products. Strategic products include glass substrates for solar panels, automotive glass such as glass for head-up displays and dimming glass for the expanding EV market, and multi-core optical connectors with immersion cooling for data centres.
Supply Chain: Through the dissemination of the Supply Chain Charter established last year, we will address human rights, environment issues and other issues throughout our supply chain. We aim to raise the proportion of diverse suppliers and the proportion of suppliers subject to assessment.
Human Capital: A new KPI on employee engagement has been established, with a KPI on whether people would be willing to recommend the company to others. For Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), we have significantly raised our previous targets.
By addressing these challenging goals, our group will contribute to the realisation of a sustainable society.
