NSG Group to Increase Carbon Reduction Target by 2030 Committing to Achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2050
NSG Group is proud to announce that we have set the increased target of carbon emission reduction by 2030 and have committed to achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050.
Currently, more than 140 countries have set carbon-neutral targets by 2050, and the initiatives against the climate change have become the worldwide common issue. For NSG Group, as a glass manufacturer, it is of course one of the most important issues to be addressed. In October 2019, The Group has already set a target of reducing GHG emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 21% compared to its 2018 levels by 2030 as a "Science Based Targets" certified by SBT Initiative (SBTi *), and we have been taking initiatives in line with the targets. At the same time, The Group has been working to achieve a 2% annual reduction in carbon emissions (Scope 1 and 2) during the three-year period of the Company's Revival Plan 24 to 2024.
NSG Group now recognizes the achievement of carbon neutrality by 2050 as the inevitable goal that should be committed as a member of society. At the same time, we have decided to raise the carbon reduction target by 2030, which is more important for achieving carbon neutrality, from 21% to 30%, and to set more concrete and feasible additional measures.
The following measures will mainly be implemented to achieve the new target by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.

In addition to the measures above, NSG Group will promote the development of new technologies through disruptive innovations, such as 100% zero-carbon fuels such as hydrogen, CCSU (carbon capture, storage, and utilization), and the use of alternative glass raw materials.
*1 SBT Initiative (SBTi)
Current certified target by SBTi is to reduce absolute GHG emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) by 21% by 2030 compared to the 2018 level. NSG Group is now applying to SBTi for the updated reduction target of 30%.
